KFPL is looking for 6 poets interested in a 1-hour one-on-one mentorship session in November with Poet Laureate Jason Heroux. Minimum age is 14 years. Verse submission deadline is 5 pm on November 4.

If you're an emerging or practising poet aged 14 or older you may apply for one of the six mentorship sessions.  Please submit a sample of your poetry (from five to 12 pages in length) to poetlaureate@cityofkingston.ca  Don't forget to include your full name and your contact information with your submission.  To be eligible, your submission must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 4.  (Those without an email address may submit their verse as a print-out or typescript at any branch of Kingston Frontenac Public Library, marked to the attention of Poet Laureate Jason Heroux, c/o Isabel Turner Branch.)

Please note that the six mentorship sessions will take place at the following times:

  • Monday, November 18 at Calvin Park, at 6:45 and 7:45 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 19 at Central, at 2 and 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 23 at Isabel Turner, at 2 and 3 p.m.

When sending in your poetry, please be sure to list which of these six sessions you'd be able to attend, ranked in order of your preference.  Jason will review all the submissions and will schedule one-on-one meetings with six poets.  During your hour he will go over your work and offer both feedback and possible next steps.

In order to reach the most poets, these sessions are not open to anyone who had a mentorship session with Jason during April 2019.
