Are you interested in learning about collecting wild food? This workshop will include a 30-45 minute classroom session on foraging safety, sustainability and ethics, followed by an outdoor lesson about in-season forageable goods around the library campus, giving you hands-on exposure to forageable plants in their natural setting.
Sheila is a Kingston-based urban forager whose pandemic passion project was to bring foraging education to her community. She grew up in a in Northern Ontario, where her family regularly foraged for blueberries, hazelnuts, wintergreen and other wild foods. She has a certificate in Plant-Based Medicine from Cornell University and a Master Naturalist certificate from Lakehead University.
The KFPL is hosting 8 foraging workshops between April – November 2024. Look for these workshops in our events calendar, registration opens a month in advance for each session. Forageable goods often have short harvest windows, so while there may be some overlap from month to month, consider attending multiple workshops in order to maximize how many plants that you can learn about, while deepening your understanding of plants that are covered repeatedly.
