In this hands-on workshop, Kingston's Tone Deaf Festival invites youth to explore other ways of composing music... no musical knowledge necessary!
Whether you have musical training or not, graphic scores will probably be new to you. In this hands-on workshop, Kingston's Tone Deaf Festival invites youth to explore other ways of composing music... no musical knowledge necessary!
Experiment composing using shapes and colours! Work with three of Kingston’s best improvising musicians to make graphic scores that will be played on the spot. No musical training is needed, only musical imagination—your drawings will become compositions! Paul Clifford (bass), Kyoko Ogoda (marimba), Paul Morrison (keyboards) and Matt Rogalsky (composer) will be on hand to talk about the history of graphic scores and guide youths age 13–24 in their creations. Recordings will be made for participants to take home.
