For King Con, KFPL and The Witch Institute present Adan Jerreat-Poole, author of 'The Boi of Feather and Steel', in conversation with The Witch Institute's Tamara de Szegheo Lang
KFPL and The Witch Institute (an online symposium concerned with contemporary imaginings of the witch in popular and visual culture) are pleased to present "Queer Witches and Magical Enbies", a conversation between Kingston-based YA fantasy author and academic, Adan Jerreat-Poole, and The Witch Institute's Tamara de Szegheo Lang. Jerreat-Poole will read from their recently published novel, The Boi of Feather and Steel, and then join de Szegheo Lang for a conversation about the witch's role as a queer, feminist, and activist icon, bodily transformation, disability, the environment, and other topics.
Adan Jerreat-Poole lives with chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and feminism. When they aren't reading or writing, Adan likes to crochet, play video games, and do jigsaw puzzles. They have a PhD in cultural studies and work at the intersection of disability and digital media. Adan lives in Kingston, ON, with their forever partner, Rida.
Tamara de Szegheo Lang (she/her) is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Film and Media at Queen’s University. She is also the project manager of the Vulnerable Media Lab at Queen’s, which works toward the preservation, migration and remediation of audio-visual production in Canada, especially by marginalized communities including Indigenous peoples, women, and LGBTQ2 people. Her research takes up queer history, community-based archives, visual culture, and the affective relationships between queer people and the past in curatorial and media spaces. She is a co-organizer of The Witch Institute, an online symposium, taking place in August 2021.
The Witch Institute is a one-time symposium hosted by the Department of Film and Media at Queen’s University in Katarokwi/Kingston, Ontario, Canada, as the 2021 summer institute of the new Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies graduate program.
