Refuge Canada explores the themes of life before, fear, displacement, refuge, and life in Canada as newcomers.

Refuge Canada was created by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 2.

Refugees face fear, shattered lives, and often dangerous voyages in search of refuge. Canada has provided refuge for many over the years. However, over the course of the twentieth century, Canada has had a mixed record in welcoming refugees, reacting generously to some while overlooking others. Refuge Canada provides the context for Canada’s place in the global refugee crisis and brings to light the challenges faced by refugees in Canada.

This traveling exhibit is for K-3 and Gr. 4-8 age groups.  The K-3 sessions will be focused on identity and belonging, while gr. 4-8 sessions will focus on myths, stereotypes and historical Canadian responses to refugees.

Please complete the Ontario COVID-19 self-assessment screening before attending the program, thank you! Please remember that all participants ages 2 and up must wear a mask throughout the program and while visiting the library. You will be asked to check-in on your arrival.
