Floods and forest fires, drought and heat waves: they’re happening more often and there seem to be so many conflicting opinions. How can we tell what’s factual and what’s fake news?

Which groups and individuals are conducting research on climate change and how reliable are their findings? How trustworthy is the reporting and interpretation of climate research by news outlets, pundits and governments? Now that discussions have become so polarizing, how can we talk to others with different views, especially friends and family?

Join Geoff Hendry from Sustainable Kingston for a helpful introduction to navigating the news around climate change. Sustainable Kingston's mission is to enhance the livability and resiliency of Kingston. They do this by sharing knowledge and providing programs that drive community action.

Listen to Geoff's December 13 interview on CBC Radio here, from the 12:43 minute mark until 19:18 minutes.

This 90-minute interactive online presentation will be held on Zoom.  Registrants will be emailed the link immediately upon registration. (Please check your Junk and Spam folders right away if you don't see the confirmation email and link in your Inbox, then adjust your settings to make sure emails from KFPL aren't blocked. You can also manage your registrations by scrolling over the calendar icon at the top of the main page of our website and signing in to My Events.)

Participants will need to download the latest version of Zoom in advance to the device they’ll be using during the presentation.

Please note that this is the first of two identical presentations.  Unfortunately the second presentation, originally advertised for 2 PM on Saturday December 18, has been cancelled due to low registration.

Sustainable Kingston invites you to join them on January 13 at the 2022 Kingston Climate Change Symposium and hear from an incredible line-up of speakers, from across Canada: Nobel Peace Prize Award Nominee and climate activist, Sheila Watt-Cloutier; meteorologist, science reporter, and author Johanna Wagstaffe; and broadcaster Ali Hassan as the host. This event is taking place online. To register please visit https://www.sustainablekingston.com/2022-climate-change-symposium.
