Cataraqui Room

Join Judii Merle/Judi Montgomery for a reading and discussion on her book Wabanang, a debut novel that combines her love of storytelling, genealogy and Indigenous wisdom.

Judii Merle's Wabanang is a story inspired by her family's history, personal research and visions of her own life. Wabanang is centred on Janey, a young Anishinaabe woman seeking information about her grandmother's experiences with colonialism. After consulting a hypnotist, Janey is pushed back to a time before first contact, then to her grandmother's early life, showing the consequences of colonialism on her family.

Judii will read from the book, explore the creative process and engage in a Q&A session following her presentation.
