Learn about the history and mechanics of eclipses from Professor Daryn Lehoux (Classics and Archeology) and Dr. Sarah Sadavoy (Physics, Engineering Physics and Astronomy).

Throughout history and across the world, total solar eclipses have invoked fear, wonder, and awe. From signaling doom and death to inspiring progress in calendars and mapping the sky, solar eclipses have had significant impact on those individuals who stood even momentarily in the shadow of the Moon.  For this discussion, we will share vignettes about solar eclipses and how those events have shaped society and scientific discovery.

This next North American Eclipse is October 14!

The event is in partnership with Queen's University and the McDonald Institute.
