For ages 14 and up. Join us in the Gather/Create Space to learn a useful hands-on skill taught by a community expert. No previous experience necessary.
From Basho's haiku on the rain in Edo (now Tokyo) to Sylvia Plath's poetry of her Devon house, poets of every culture and era have been drawn to conveying a sense of place. So how do we continue the tradition and write the poetry of where we live? Join Sadiqa de Meijer for a workshop where we will write and share poems that express our connections to Katarokwi/Kingston. This workshop is open to all levels - no experience required.
Sadiqa de Meijer is Katarokwi / Kingston's Poet Laureate, and she loves sharing the reading and writing of poetry. In April of this year she created a collaborative poem called 'The Causeway In The Rear-View Mirror', in which more than 70 Kingston residents share their memories of the bridge. Her latest books are Qaf's People (Vehicule Press 2026) and In The Field (Palimpsest Press 2025).
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library.
