In honour of Science Literacy Week 2019 and the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing, amateur astronomer Frank Hitchens returns to KFPL to talk about the historic Apollo 11 mission.

Rarely in history has humanity embarked upon an enterprise as audacious and adventurous as sending the first of our own kind to explore another world. The Apollo 11 mission of 1969 and the people who made it happen represent what is arguably the greatest achievement in science and engineering in history. Those who watched Neil Armstrong's "one small step" from the Eagle to the moon's surface 50 years ago remember not just the news coverage but also sharing the experience in real time with the rest of the world.

Anyone who enjoyed Frank Hitchens’ 2018 'Target Earth' presentation on asteroid impacts or his 2017 'Are We Alone?' talk on the search for extraterrestrial life will want to hear what he has to say on Apollo 11.

This program requires free registration.
