Ages 8-14. Racialized & mixed-race youth can explore their identities and claim space in their communities through discussion & a creative activity with local poet Paul Akpomuje. All supplies included

This event is for Black, Indigenous, and youth of colour ages 8-14 who identify as girls, trans, Two-Spirit, or gender non-conforming.

Together, we will use words, pictures, and art to express ourselves and talk about the people, places, and experiences that are important to us.  All supplies included.

Paul is a poet and doctoral candidate at Queen’s University. His work explores visa stories, identity and belonging, social justice, and antiracist pedagogies. He co-convened the Poetics of Migration, an event that intersects poetry with community stories to unpack issues of mobility, immigration paperwork, and the onerous work of travelling while black.

Roots & Wings is aimed at girls, trans, Two-Spirit, and gender non-conforming youth of colour between the ages of 8 and 14 in Kingston, ON. We offer diverse programming that aims to educate, empower and engage youth in social justice topics in fun and engaging ways. Find out more about Roots & Wings Kingston.

This workshop is generously supported by the Kingston Heritage Fund.
