For ages 14 and up. Join local Kingston artist Portia “Po” Chapman for an uplifting introduction to scratchboard art.
Join local Kingston artist Portia “Po” Chapman for one of her most beloved workshops. Scratchboard art is a calming and visually rewarding medium that Po has been teaching since 2020.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants select from four nature-inspired images drawn in Po’s family’s traditional art form. Using specialized tools, you’ll gently scratch away the black surface revealing the bright colour hidden beneath. The process is soothing, highly accessible, and wonderfully satisfying, perfect for anyone seeking a creative break from the busyness of daily life.
Po’s workshops are designed to be encouraging, joyful, and community-centred, giving participants the opportunity to relax, create, and enjoy good conversation while making something beautiful. No prior art experience is required; if you can comfortably hold a scratching tool, you can do this, and Po’s warm, patient guidance ensures that every participant experiences success.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a completed scratchboard piece ready to frame and display at home. All materials are provided, just come as you are, ready to unwind, connect, and have a lot of fun.
