In honour of World Space Week, amateur astronomer Frank Hitchens returns to KFPL, this time to talk online about the Hubble Space Telescope.
Please note that this online-only presentation has been rescheduled from its original date of Saturday September 25 at 2 PM. Anyone who had been registered for either the in-person or the online session on that original date has been emailed to ask if they wish to be registered for this October 9 online-only presentation.
A look at the past and future of one of the most amazing and productive instruments in the history of science. 1990 saw the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope, and in the intervening three decades Hubble has proven to be, arguably, the most productive instrument in the history of science. Canada has played a key role throughout the Telescope's history; the Shuttle-based Canadarm was used to deploy Hubble in 1990 and made possible its repair and upgrading until 2011 when the Shuttle fleet was retired.
