KFPL, King Con, and the Tone Deaf Festival are pleased to present a special community celebration of the vocal arts hosted by comics artist, author, and editor, Georgia Webber.

When we think of the vocal arts, we tend to think of singing – it is sonically pleasing, broadly accessible, and widely popular. But what about other vocal arts and practices, to which some dedicate themselves with all of the passion and hard work of the most celebrated singers. Are bird calls, auctioneering, ventriloquism, and sound healing somehow the products of a lesser commitment to craft?

Kingston Frontenac Public Library, King Con, and the Tone Deaf Festival are pleased to announce a special Kingston-edition of comics author and artist, Georgia Webber’s immersive concert series, “MAW,” which celebrates the human voice in all its permutations. Often blurring the roles of audience and performer, “MAW: A Community Celebration of the Vocal Arts” brings together an array of vocalists who might otherwise never identify as a community so that they may perform and reflect on their vocal arts. At this Kingston edition of MAW we will hear from locals Nikolas Yuen, a voiceover artist and actor, and Time Victim, a musician who builds soundscapes with vocal loops. In addition, we will also hear from two unique vocalists who have previously performed in Kingston at past Tone Deaf Festivals: liturgical singer Cormac Culkeen of hymnal drone duo Joyful Joyful; and composer and interdisciplinary artist Anne Bourne. Each performer will demonstrate their vocal art and then speak with Webber about their craft.

In collaboration with KFPL, King Con, and the Tone Deaf Festival, comics artist, author, and editor, Georgia Webber, presents a special "Kingston edition" of MAW: A Community Celebration of the Vocal Arts.

This interactive online program will be held on Zoom. Registration will close four hours prior to the event, and registrants will be sent the link at least 30 minutes prior to the start time. It is recommended that participants and attendees download Zoom in advance.
